This website was created in 2013 to promote the First International Holy Quran Congress. The event may be over, but I think the the content and presentation are not only inspirational, but good references that should be available for others to see. When the qurancongress.com's domain registration expired the site disappeared from the internet. Recently I discovered that the domain was available, so I bought it with the goal of recreating some of its original content from the archived pagesof qurancongress.com. I definitely didn't want someone else purchasing the domain and re-purposing it for something that had nothing in common with the original website. I happen to be part of a data analytics team that often works for the legendary SEO consultancy TNG/Earthling, whose CEO Bob Sakayama supports the Web Archive Project. Bob agreed to fund the restoration and archiving of this site to protect an historically significant artifact and keep it publicly available. TNG/E's Rev Sale provided technical assistance. When I told my co-workers what we were doing with qurancongress.com they applauded the effort. There is so much misinformation and downright ignorant and hateful rhetoric regarding Muslims and the quoran, I felt it important that people see there is more to Islam than the what the media in the US often spews out without a deeper understanding of the religion and the Iranian culture.
More Background on QuranCongress.com
QuranCongress.com stands as a digital platform dedicated to the scholarly study and public discussion of the Quran, with particular emphasis on its social, ethical, and cultural dimensions. While not a household name, the website has carved a niche for itself among academics, students, and community members interested in Quranic studies and interfaith dialogue. This article delves into the background, activities, audience, cultural significance, and broader impact of QuranCongress.com by synthesizing information from domain records, academic event listings, and the wider context of Quranic scholarship.
Historical Background
Domain Registration and Early Development
Public domain records indicate that QuranCongress.com was first registered in 2013. The domain has passed through several hands, reflecting periods of both activity and dormancy. Early ownership was attributed to an individual named Hiroyuki Mizuno, and later the domain was managed by privacy protection services, a common practice for both personal and organizational websites seeking to limit unsolicited contact and maintain security. The domain has experienced lapses and subsequent renewals, suggesting intermittent but persistent interest in its mission and content.
Connection to International Quranic Events
The website’s inception aligns with the broader trend of international Quranic congresses and conferences. Such events, often organized by universities or religious institutions, bring together scholars, theologians, and laypersons to discuss the Quran’s relevance to contemporary issues. These congresses typically address a wide range of topics, including social justice, ethics, family, governance, and interfaith relations. QuranCongress.com appears to have been established as a digital extension of these efforts, providing an online repository for conference materials, scholarly papers, and ongoing dialogue.
